Create your own enchanting 'Selkie' brooch or necklace in this hands-on creative workshop. 

"The Selkie is a mythological being found among the folklore of Scotland. Selkies are shapeshifters, transforming between seal and human form by shedding and replacing their skin. In their human form, Selkie folk are always referred to as being incredibly attractive."

Jessica will start by helping everyone settle in and talk briefly about ‘selkie’ mythology and folklore.

She will then introduce the laser-cutting process with a short visual overview. While the laser cutter itself can’t be brought to the workshop, your selkie shapes (and some practice pieces) have been pre-cut for you to decorate.

Next, Jessica will guide you through Japanese watercolours (gansai) and explain how they differ from Western paints. You’ll practise on smaller shapes and paper before choosing colours and painting your selkie, layering to create depth and texture.

After a short break while the pieces dry, Jessica will demonstrate UV resin, along with simple health and safety guidance. You’ll practise on small pieces before coating your selkie and curing it under a UV light.

To finish, Jessica will help you add findings—a brooch back or a necklace with gold or silver-plated chain cut to your preferred length. Finally, you’ll box up your creations, with Jessica on hand to answer any questions.

You’ll leave with a unique, wearable piece of art—and the skills to try the process again at home. No experience needed—just bring your imagination!

The course is held in our workshop upstairs, above our shop on Palace Street in the centre of Caernarfon.
