Step into the world of rings, rhythm, and repetition in this creative Chain Maille Making Workshop. Whether you're a complete beginner, a craft enthusiast or a member of a medieval re-enactment group, this session offers a perfect introduction to the ancient technique of chain Maille weaving.
Inspired by the historical setting of Caernarfon, a town steeped in medieval heritage, this hands-on workshop will teach you how to interlink hundreds of small rings into beautiful and functional designs. You’ll learn classic weaves such as European 4-in-1 — used in historical armour — as well as a brief taster of looking at riveted Maille, its construction and tools required.
During the workshop you will:
- Learn how to open and close jump rings neatly and securely
- Follow step-by-step instructions for at least one traditional chain Maille weave
- Create your own bracelet, necklace, or key fob to take home
- Discover tips on finishing and polishing your work for a professional look
All tools and materials are included. You’ll leave with a finished piece, full instructions to continue at home, and a new appreciation for this rhythmic and absorbing craft.
This workshop is ideal for:
- Anyone interested in learning a new jewellery technique
- Fans of historical crafts, costume-making, and re-enactment
- Those drawn to the meditative, hands-on process of working with metal
No prior experience is needed — just bring enthusiasm and a steady hand. Whether you're looking to make your own costume pieces, add a new skill to your jewellery practice, or simply try something different in a unique setting, this workshop is for you.
