Jewellery Valuations
What is it?
A jewellery valuation is not just a number on a piece of paper. In fact, a simple figure alone is not accepted by insurers as adequate proof of an item’s identity or value.
A professional valuation is a comprehensive, evidence based record of your jewellery. It documents the exact details of the piece, including:
- Gemstone grades, types and measurements
- Metal composition and hallmark information
- Age and craftsmanship
- Identifying features and condition
- Research and comparison with similar items
- Supporting evidence that justifies the valuation figure
This detailed documentation ensures that, in the event of loss, theft or damage, insurers have a precise and defensible record of exactly what the item was and what it was worth — allowing them to replace or recreate it as accurately as possible.
A valuation also serves as a record of provenance. Families often choose to include personal notes or history alongside the valuation, creating a longterm reference that preserves the story, origin and significance of important pieces for future generations.
Who carries out our valuations?
All valuations are carried out onsite by Annabelle Parry of Fairmind, a highly respected registered jewellery valuer with extensive industry experience. Annabelle is a former valuer for Boodles, Chester, and was nominated as UK Valuer of the Year in 2026.
She works with clients across the UK, valuing pieces from several hundred pounds to several million, and is known for her precise documentation, rigorous research and exceptional professional standards. As a registered valuer and member of the Jewellery Valuers Association and the National Association of Jewellers, Annabelle provides independent, evidence based valuations that meet the requirements of insurers, legal professionals and private clients.
We are honoured to have Annabelle as Siop Iard’s valuer, and proud to offer a service of such exceptional calibre to our clients.
What is the proccess?
Please phone the shop on 01286 672472 to arrange a suitable time for a pre-assessment with one of our onsite jewellers. The pre-assessment ensures that only items worth valuing proceed to the full valuation stage.
Once your pre-assessment is complete, we will book you into our next valuation day, usually within two months.
Just before the valuation day, you will drop off your items with us. They are kept securely onsite at all times and never leave the premises. On valuation day, Annabelle carries out the full assessment in our workshop.
After the assessment, your items are kept safely at Siop Iard and returned to you within a few days, before Annabelle leaves to continue her research and prepare your valuation.
All valuations are provided digitally, and a paper copy in a presentation folder can be arranged on request.
What does it look like?
Your valuation is provided as a digital document, containing:
- Detailed descriptions of gemstones, metals and craftsmanship
- High quality images of your jewellery
- Precise measurements and identifying features
- Supporting evidence and the accredited valuation figure
If preferred, we can also produce a hard-backed, presentation quality folder containing a printed copy of your valuation.
What is the cost of a valuation?
Valuation fees vary depending on the complexity and type of piece. We will provide a clear, tailored quote once we understand what you would like valued. To discuss your jewellery, please call us on 01286 672472 to make a pre-assessment appointment.
